Santa Draws Record CrowdsAttendance more than tripled from 2008The National Military History Center was host to more than 600 people Thursday, Dec. 3 during the 2nd annual "A Night with Santa" event. Hundreds of children turned out with their Christmas lists in tow to sit on Santa's lap and tell the man in red what they wanted for Christmas."We anticipated the event would grow, but not this much," said NMHC Executive Director Bob Krafft. "We are so pleased with the turnout, and grateful to the community for its support. We love to offer events like these for free, and with attendance like this, we can continue to do so." Smiling faces lined the rotunda as children participated in several crafts, watched Holiday movies and met with Auggy the Frog from Froggy 106.7. The sound of jingle bells bounced off the walls while kids excitedly shook their jingle bell bracelets. And despite long lines, all were patient and on their best behavior while they waited for St. Nick. "Now that we have seen the size of crowd the event will draw, we will certainly have a better system in place for next year to minimize wait time for Santa," said Krafft. The National Military History Center would like to thank participating event sponsors of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival. Also contributing were the DeKalb High School Leo Lions and Froggy radio 106.7. |
